This coin is a “frozen date” issue, a common practice by the Bengal Presidency to ensure the currency remained trusted by local merchants. The Obverse features the full titular legend of the Mughal Emperor: “Sikka zad bar haft kishwar saya fazl Ilah Hami ud-din Muhammad Shah Alam, Badshah” (Shadow of divine favor, Shah Alam Emperor, put his stamp on the seven climes). The Reverse clearly displays the mint name and the regnal year 45: “Zarb Farrukhabad sanat 45 julus maimanat manus” (Struck at Farrukhabad in the 45th year of his reign of tranquil prosperity). The strike is well-centered, showcasing the elegant, flowing script characteristic of the early 19th-century EIC issues.

Grade: Extremely Fine (XF). The coin displays very sharp details in the calligraphy and minimal wear on the high points of the letters. The fields are clean with a nice natural luster, making this a highly attractive specimen for collectors.
